What to Pack for a Working Holiday in Australia: The Ultimate Guide
Packing for any trip can be stressful, and the idea of packing potentially a years-worth of clothes into a backpack can seem like a near impossible task! But have no fear – I have put together a concise list of everything you need to bring based on my own experience, along with a few optional extras that could be considered!
This is everything I decided to bring with me, split between a 50 litre Backpack and 20 litre rucksack:
Clothes:
- 7 T-shirts
- 3 Pairs of Shorts
- 2 Trunks
- 2 Pairs of Jeans
- 1 Hoodie
- 2 Crewneck Jumpers
- 8 Pairs of socks and Underwear
- 2 Pairs of Shoes (Everyday shoes and Gym/Running Shoes)
- 1 Pair of Sliders
- Hat
- 1 Windbreaker
Documents:
It’s crucial to have all your documents in order before heading to Australia. I’d recommend printing copies just in case the digital versions are inaccessible.

These aren’t essential, they’re just extra things that I personally decided to bring!

Final Tips and Conclusion
Packing light is key—remember, you can always pick up anything you need once you arrive (and if you’ve overpacked, you can always drop things off along the way!). Focus on the essentials and prioritize comfort, versatility, and practicality, especially when it comes to clothing and important documents.
But most importantly, enjoy the experience! A working holiday in Australia is a once-in-a-lifetime experience; so embrace spontaneity, meet new people, and make the most of your time down-under.
Safe travels!
